How the 'Ugliest Dog of the Netherlands' election began
The idea for this playful competition originated in our dog studio. Every day, we see the most beautiful, perfectly groomed dogs pass by for high-end photoshoots. But it is precisely the dogs with a unique appearance, a special character, or an imperfection that hold a special place in our hearts. With this contest, we wanted to show that 'ugliness' can actually be incredibly charming, photogenic, and beautiful.
From the ugliest dog in the Netherlands to the world's election
Did you know that the 'ugliest dog in the world' competition is a huge event in California every year? Although Cruella shines as the absolute winner of the ugliest dog in the Netherlands, she shares her unique charm with special four-legged friends all over the world. These competitions exist precisely to celebrate dogs that look different and to show that every animal deserves a loving home.
At Motherpuppers, we put all dogs in the spotlight, no matter how unique they are. Whether you have the most handsome four-legged friend or the most distinctive rebel in your home: treat yourself to a memory for life and have your buddy's unique character captured in our studio.
We have nearly 2 million four-legged friends in the Netherlands, and since we only see handsome dogs passing by, I was curious to see what else hops around in our small but busy little country.
For the very first time in the Netherlands, I have set up the Ugliest Dog of the Netherlands contest.
Because in my opinion no dog is ugly, I hoped the owners would take this with a grain of salt. I went looking for unique, special dogs that might be labeled as ugly by our society, but are actually beautiful because of their unique appearance.
Cruella, the Chinese Crested, participated and was chosen by us as the very first winner.
She won a snack package from Avonturia, the largest pet store in the Netherlands, the golden cup, and a photoshoot at my studio.
